What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state in which both your mind and body are completely relaxed. Once the mind is relaxed, we can access your subconscious mind and give it the suggestions that are going to help you reach your goals. It is in this state that we work together to modify the behaviors to make changes in your life.

Can everyone be hypnotized?

There are three types of people that cannot be hypnotized.

  • People with mental retardation or developmental disabilities who cannot maintain the focus required to follow the directions and instructions of the hypnotist.
  • People under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol also cannot focus properly and would probably just fall asleep.
  • Anyone who does not want to be hypnotized. You cannot be forced into hypnosis.

How do I know I can be hypnotized?

Most people who do not fall into the above categories can be hypnotized. Anyone who wants to be hypnotized, can be. If you are open to the idea, it will work. Because you are reading this, you must be somewhat open to it.

Can you make me do something I do not want to do?

I cannot make you squawk like a chicken or bark like a dog. You may have seen this done in stages shows. Those are purely for entertainment and the guests on stage are open to the idea of putting on a show. I use hypnosis in a clinical setting to help clients modify their behavior and improve specific areas of their life that they wish to improve. Some examples are smoking cessation, weight control, pain management, increasing fertility, improving sleep habits and much, much more.

Can you control my mind?

You remain in complete control the whole time. If I were to suggest something that is not acceptable to you or goes against your ethics, you retain the ability to disregard that particular suggestion. At anytime you could get up and walk out the front door.

Will I remember what took place while I was in hypnosis?

You will most likely remember everything. While in hypnosis, you will be able to hear outside noises, respond to questions, control what you think and say, and feel your own feelings. People who are accustomed to and enjoy going into hypnosis may go so deep that they do not remember all the suggestions made. You will only go as deep as you are comfortable going.

Will I tell you all my secrets?

Since you are in complete control, you only tell me what you want to tell me. Often times clients feel they are in a safe place and are comfortable revealing information that can be used to resolve issues. If, however, a client is not ready to reveal secrets, they will not do so until they are ready.

Could I get stuck in hypnosis?

If you were listening to a CD and the batteries went out or if I got up and left the room, you would either fall asleep and awaken when sufficiently rested or return to full awareness after realizing it was so quiet.

What if it does not work?

In 1958 the American Medical Association approved the use of hypnosis for treating physical and psychological disorders. They would not have approved it if it did not work. In fact, it is being taught in every medical university. It may not work for everyone, but then, neither does penicillin. If you do the work that goes along with the program, the program will work for you.

What happens now?

Give me a call and set up an appointment for a free, no obligation consultation. At the consultation, I can determine if my program will work for you and you can determine if I am the right hypnotherapist that you want to work with.
