“My dream is that every woman, everywhere,
will know the joy of a truly safe,
comfortable, and satisfying birthing
for herself and her baby.”
- Marie Mongan, founder of HypnoBirthing®,
Painless Childbirth? Yes, it is absolutely possible to have
a painless childbirth. Since the time we were little girls
all we have heard is how painful childbirth is. So we go into
the “labor room” - which implies work –
and we get tense and are afraid of all the pain. Our bodies
react to this tension causing our muscles to tense up. The
birth canal is a large muscle and the baby has to squeeze
its way down. But if we were to walk in there unafraid and
relaxed, there would be no resistance and the birth canal
could open right up. There is no need for chemical anesthesia.
And because there is no resistance, the delivery time is much
shorter.
HypnoBirthing®
is a philosophy as well as a childbirthing technique. HypnoBirthing®
teaches the mother complete relaxation and to trust her body
to birth the baby as nature intended her to do. Childbirth
is not a medical procedure, but a naturally occurring event
that has been happening since before the inventions of epidurals,
chemical anesthesias, cesarean sections and forceps.
HypnoBirthing®
frees the mother from fear, which then releases the tension
that causes pain. Just as our bodies “know” how
to develop a child, it also “knows” how to birth
one. HypnoBirthing® teaches women to trust their bodies
and to go with the natural flow and rhythm of labor. When
a woman works with her body instead of against it, she can
have a comfortable, pain-free labor. HypnoBirthing® labors
tend to be shorter and the babies are born calmer. After the
birth, the family can focus on bonding instead of recovering.
This
is the most loving, natural way to have a baby. Do not let
the word hypnosis scare you. All it is, is a deep relaxation
– what a way to have a baby!
You
will not be asleep. On the contrary, you will be fully aware,
conversant and able to make decisions. You will determine
the depth of your relaxation and to what degree you feel the
contractions.
Other
than the obvious benefits to you, there are also benefits
to your baby. The most important is that the baby does not
suffer the effects of chemical anesthesia. But research has
shown that babies born using hypnosis have higher IQ’s
and do better in school and they have higher self-esteem.
The
classes are kept small – no more than five couples.
This assures individual attention as well as the possibility
for the couples to get to know each other and support each
other should they choose to do so.
